How do I choose my builder? 

Your new home will probably be the largest investment you ever make.  You should choose a builder who is experienced and has a proven track record.  Speak with other homeowners who have used your builder.  Make sure he is reputable.  Price per square foot is a very misleading indicator of value, so educate yourself so you understand how to identify quality in new construction.

 Why should I build a home with Rieger Homes? 

Rieger Homes has been building homes in the Hudson Valley for over 60 years.  We are well established and respected, with years of satisfied customers, and consistently deliver high quality homes.

 Do I need a realtor? 

Rieger Homes is a realtor friendly builder.  If you have a realtor who brings you to one of our sites, you will both be welcomed warmly.  If you do not have a realtor, our sales team will help you through the process and you will be well cared for.

Do I need a mortgage pre-approval? 

Rieger Homes works with several mortgage lenders who we carefully monitor to assure that they provide our customers with the quality service that they deserve.  It is not necessary to have a pre-approval, but it is advisable to obtain one early in the home search to ensure that your expectations are attainable.

Do I need a construction loan? 

If you are building your home on a lot owned by Rieger Homes, you will not need a construction loan.  Rieger Homes will build your home and you will obtain a mortgage loan only when the home is complete and ready for occupancy.

How do I choose a floor plan? 

Rieger Homes has many plans to offer plus we will consider building a plan you bring to us. 

Can I make changes to a floor plan? 

Yes.  Rieger Homes will customize any plan to meet your wishes.

 How do I choose what goes in my home? 

Once you have selected your floor plan and any structural options, you will work with our selections coordinator to pick a range of finishes, including cabinets, countertops, plumbing fixtures, exterior colors, appliances, etc.  We have a lot of experience with this and will guide you through this process if you need help.

How long does it take to build a home? 

It generally takes 4 – 5 months to build a home, from when construction is started.  You should plan on it taking another 2 weeks or so to close on your home from when the construction is completed.

Can I visit my home under construction? 

Yes.  We will arrange for you to visit the home while the electrician is working to locate your switches and light fixtures.  We will also arrange for your to visit the home at other times you may request.

Do you use energy efficient building techniques? 

Yes, we use many energy efficient techniques.  Please see our Energy Savings page and our Energy Effiicient, High Perfomance Home Program handout.

What type of warranty do you offer? 

We have a 1 year warranty on all workmanship and materials, a 2 year warranty on the significant parts of the heating, air conditioning, plumbing and electrical systems and a 6 year structural warranty.  The detailed warranty is available for your review.
